Election Day Parade: Grand Buddha Marching Band

Nov. 6 @ 2:30—4pm

Elana Mann’s exhibition traces the relationship of early listening devices to modern-day protest movements in order to amplify public dissent. Mann references the seventeenth-century listening and speaking devices fabricated by Renaissance scholar Athanasius Kircher, as well as the Mega-Kazoo-Horn, made by Charles Chase (1914-2004), in the late 1970s to use during May Day parades.

Election Day Parade: Grand Buddha Marching Band. On Election Day, Elana Mann will stage a performance of the feminist experimental composer Pauline Oliveros’ (1932-2016) Grand Buddha Marching Band in collaboration with art students from Pitzer and Claremont Graduate University (CGU).
